The word "most"

edited 2011-12-10 18:37:00 in General
I instinctively want to quantify it as a percentage. It's hard to understand what someone means when they use a word that could mean anything from 50.1% to 99.9%.

  • This issue was brought up in my semantics class. For the purpose of a working theory, the text decided to use "more than half".

I think there might have been some other interestIng insights, but I'd rather not attempt listing them from memory fir the moment.
  • I hate how anytime you use "most" while criticizing a group (i.e. "most conservatives don't believe in evolution" ) anyone within that group instantly reacts like you said "all," even if they would otherwise agree that the behavior is a common trend.
