She actually got banned because she said that she preferred the 4chan site, not because of feminism; she claims someone else got banned for that.

I suspect this is actually a "local" issue, though, as the different SA boards are very different from each other, the main link being that you have to pay the same ten dollars to get into all of them.

(Although SA has, historically speaking and goddamn, i hate using those words when talking about the internet, shown more contempt towards FourChan because lol hideous pit from hell and all the usual shit that it's slinged at it for /b/)

I know enough rape victims in real life (one) and enough in
webspace (We could go on for a while in there) to know that I shouldn't
joke about it with them, same way you don't talk to soldiers about war
in a jokey fashion and blah blah blah. And it's OK to respect that. In
fact, not even OK, it's necessary, if you're gonna be their friends or
associates, at least.

So then, if it's only okay to joke about rape in front of non-rape victims, how do you know who isn't a rape victim? Certainly you can't count on every victim of rape telling you.

My opinion on the whole dickwolves thing: Rape culture is totally a real thing, the original strip was not it, but all of Jerry's reactions since then totally were.

Basically I think the feminist position got stronger as time went on, and the Penny Arcade guys' got weaker. Originally they totally had the better of the argument, because although they had technically made a rape joke it didn't trivialize or minimize rape in any way and so the reaction was kind of just Shakesville being Shakesville*. Then the reaction strip was actually a legitimate rape joke, and then with the T-shirts and everything it kind of spiraled down from there. Basically Gabe and Tycho chose to react to the complaints in the most immature way possible.

*: Shakesville has a tendency to overreact to things, in part because its moderation policy is so biased towards keeping trolls out in practice it tends to keep out anyone who disagrees with the admins. And even so, it was a guest post criticizing PA, as part of a series, along with many other things in that very same post. PA guys could TOTALLY have ignored it, as nearly every other thing they have ever criticized also does.

It honestly depends on the person. Turns out that some rape victims are OK with that kind of humor. I just make it a point to not make jokes about it in front of them whenever possible because I feel uncomfortable about it. But it really depends on the person. 

If it makes them feel uncomfortable, I'm sure they can say so. And it's not even like they'd have to explain, really.
