"Someone Like You" by Adele
Will you believe that I just now finally found out the name and artist of this song?
So, a while back, I heard this on the radio, while my dad was channel-surfing in the car.
Then I heard it on the radio again. Then I heard it on the radio again. I started to think, okay, maybe that same station really likes this song or something, for some odd reason.
Then I kept on hearing it all over the place. I once muttered a complaint about it in the car and my dad said that it's a current hit song. Well, maybe he was right since I pretty much never look at charts, browse music stores for currently-hot stuff, or keep up with any musical trends. (Can you believe that I neither love hip-hop nor hate it?)
This song mildly annoys me. It's kinda nice, what with its acoustic piano accompaniment, and the verses are kinda nicely sung too. But the refrain sounds a bit of a stretch sometimes, like the singer's trying too hard, and ends up screaming/growling. I know that that's very common in pop music, but that doesn' t mean I have to like it.
Not to mention it's another annoying progression that loops on IV back to I. Why. Why do people love the pop-punk progression (or the slight variant here, which is I iii6 vi IV or Amaj C#min/G# F#min Dmaj) so damn much? It just stagnates! It has no sense of musical momentum! Why don't y'all use some V-to-I or IV-to-V more often?
