Why the hell do people even vote Republican in the first place?
Seriously, if you put in any amount of thought into your vote, you'll realize that they are either corrupt or extremely misguided. Why the hell would anyone vote for someone who promises to make things better for the rich while stealing from the poor? Or for someone who oppressively prohibits abortions and gay marriage simply because some book of make-believe tells them to?

"Because they've looked at the facts and have determined that Republicans fit their politics better than the other party that has a chance at winning?"
That's presumptuous!
Are you actually interested in debating, or is this just a passive aggressive statement?
Erm, or maybe everybody could get a flat tax rate? The rich are still giving more that way, but come on, taxing the rich just for being rich is ridiculous
Wait, are you trying to tell me that there's a single important politician in this country who isn't corrupt?
My flatmate called me evil today because I wasn't liberal enough.
Left as in antitheistic and here to take your guns away.
Chagen, try reading next time. Context. Makes all the difference, beyotch.

The reason for doing this is because the cost of living does not go up with one's income. In fact, you need less and less of your money to live on, the more money you make. Someone making $30K a year is probably going to spend pretty much all 'eir $30K just to get by, while someone making $300K a year might be spending only about $70K a year for somewhat better living conditions.
In other words, the more money you have, the less of it (as a fraction) you need. Even if you're talking about living more affluently.
Taxing the person who makes $300K makes far more sense than taxing the person who makes $30K, because the latter person might need social safety nets to keep 'em afloat financially if you take away any more of their income, but the person making $300K can afford to, say, buy a Wii instead of a PS3 for eir kid's birthday.
Now why can't the $300K person just give another $70K a year to the $30K person? Well, some rich people do that, but charitable donations are just not enough to sustain a society. Not to mention, for various societal structures you really need group coordination to make something happen--such as to hire, train, and equip a force of public safety personnel, and to establish rules by which they work.
By they way, those rules are called laws. And those trained and equipped public safety personnel are called police. And this group coordination is called government.

I wouldn't mind having a pistol at home. Or heck, on my person even.
Rifles, however, are impractical for actual self-defense. And for what it's worth, the 2nd Amendment never specified the type of weapon.
Society affords them a lot of benefits. Such as the legal structure in which to do business and earn money, for one.
