It's tough to get the audience scared if your characters are being chased by a six-foot tall man-eating turkey with an incredible turn of speed. There are shades of Monty Python there.

Although IIRC, real velociraptors weren't as large or as fast as the ones in the Jurassic Park films anyway.

JP velociraptors were actually deinonychus, if memory serves. At the time, the two were considered the same species, with the former being the infant form of the latter. As such, JP velociraptors existed under another name. I'm not sure if deinonychus was feathered, but I'd presume so.

All dromaeosaurs are feathered anyway, so yes, Deinonychus is feathered.
