I have slowly grown to hate them.

    Diet NEET
Probs because they nearly always read smug and self-satsified when they occur in netorical writing.

Why would anyone use rethorical questions?

  • Myrmidon,

I think rhetorical questions are the best (i.e. most annoying) when the answers to the questions are unclear enough that they could actually be real questions. I cannot say I normally like them, just because I feel like they too often involve making a bunch of assumptions or appealing to "common sense" when the "common sense" response is far from obvious.

Actually, I wonder if people too often talk about "common sense" and "common sense solutions" in general. It might just be thickness on my part, but I usually have trouble understand what exactly those two phrases mean, especially the latter one.
