"I'm not scared of (x group), I just hate them!"

But you never had any to begin with.
This "argument" against words like homophobia, xenophobia, etc., is ridiculous. Consider the following:

Meriam-Webster definition of homophobia: "irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals"

Maybe the Oxford English Dictionary is more your thing. Xenophobia: "intense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries"

And yet people will still keep using this as if it holds any water.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate.
  • On what planet is admitting to irrational hatred any better than admitting to irrational fear anyway? Actually, I'd regard it as worse. You usually have sympathy for people who are irrationally afraid of water or heights or the number 13.

  • It's a semantics thing.

Although I know a guy who is probably literally homophobic. It's funny. :3

I would consider being afraid of black people more sympathetic than hating them.
