When legitimate criticism of a country is ignored as anti-whatevercountry/people.

I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
For instance criticism of Israel's foreign policy does not not make the person anti- Israel or Anti Semitic.
Criticism of US/UK/France/etc policies again doesn't automatically make the person anti- American/UK/French/etc.

So to treat legitimate criticisms by just decrying them as anti-whatever sentiment is just ignoring them.

  • Yeah, I've heard Israel is especially sensitive to this.

Pretty much, hence why one of the examples was clearly about Israel due to the attitude being so common.
  • It's a common way to divert the discussion away from the merits of the arguments themselves, by painting the person making the arguments in a bad light. Attacking the debater instead of the debate.
