Valve: "One, two... uh... one, two..."

WOTC: "No, see, it goes A, B, U, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, ten, eleven, twelve."

    What?
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Okay, I get the Valve part, but not the WotC part.
  • a little muffled
    Gelzo can't count; he forgot R. Actually, it really goes A, B, U, R, IV, V, VI, 7, 8, 9, X, 10, 11, 12.

It's a reference to the editions of the Magic: the Gathering base set: Limited Edition (which had two different versions called Alpha and Beta), Unlimited Edition, Revised Edition, Fourth Edition, and further numbered editions up to Tenth Edition, after which point they started naming them after the following year, so there's Magic 2010, 2011, and 2012 (which are usually called M10, M11, and M12 after their expansion symbols.)

    Ah, I see.

You're asking me to explain the joke, so I guess I will.

The names of the core sets of Magic: The Gathering in order are Alpha, Beta, Unlimited, 4th-10th Edition, Magic 2010-2012.

Dammit. I told myself before that I shouldn't try doing stuff from memory.

    You got double-ninja'd :P
  • You... you...

    Double ninja!

I already got the Wizards part but not the Valve part.
  • Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 1, Half-Life 2: Episode 2.
  • No Valve game ever seems to go beyond 2, and Wizards have many revised editions.

This is why I don't really like inside jokes, because when you think about them they're not really funny.

^^Also: Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress, Team Fortess 2 and others.

    Ninja'd by a clown.
  • A joke is like any other work of art. You enjoy it by experiencing it as a whole. It's not at all impressive if you just look at a single brushstroke of a painting at a time.
  • You can change. You can.

    FTFY.

TF2 doesn't really count since the original TF was actually a mod.
  • a little muffled
But there was a non-mod remake.
  • I don't really see why a mod doesn't count anyway...

    Oh, fine, TF0, TF1/C, TF2.
