    My brother and some of his friends went through a stage of using "gaylord" as an insult. I think it was used as a first name, mostly in the US, at one point, though. I remember reading a book by Garrison Keillor in which he refers in a footnote to another book by "Gaylord Gibbon" and wondering if that was real or made up for the lulz.

    It's a whole mini-chain. (Well, ok, four hotels...) Whether you find them amazing or ridiculous/ugly is a matter of personal taste, but a giant glass atrium is still pretty awesome IMO. Thousands of people stay in them constantly, so obviously the name isn't too disruptive.

    I mean, the company is named for the family that created it. They also do newspapers. And they're ultraconservative, apparently, so if you want to see irony there...I suppose you could. But I mean, here are people who are probably against gay marriage and everything, if they really cared they'd find a way to change the entire family name.

    OP, how'd you come across the hotel's website?
