Thinking about investing

$80+ per session
Just got 100 bucks from my mom. Not much, but I don't get money too often. It's actually been bugging me lately.

Thinking about trying my hand at investing after seeing a bunch of success stories of smart teen investors.

Half the time, "smart" means "lucky."
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
    Good luck.

I await the IJBM about investments and markets.

Do you know anything about investments or have any financial contacts?

Well, I couldn't think of anything else that I wanted to buy that cost online 100, and I want more money so

    -shrug-

    Save it then?
  • Take it to the casino. That's the much better option.
  • $80+ per session
Yeah see, but I get like no money. So saving it wouldn't really help me.

    And I'm only 17.
  • You should probably just put it in a savings account.
  • $80+ per session
Great. So in another year I'll have 100 bucks.

^^Yeah, with that kind of money, they might even give you ten cents a year.

    Ninja'd.

Or you know you could invest it and lose it?

If you don't need it know save it for later

I don't see what will be different in a year that I can spend 100 dollars on.

I should just keep looking for stuff to buy.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    That would be my suggestion.

Steam's doing that Halloween sale. Have you played Amnesia?

You don't know now but you might find yourself in need of the hundred dollars.
Whereas you mentioned you don't really have anything you wanna spend it on.
  • $80+ per session
No, I just haven't been looking hard enough.

I need to find something else. I would surely love a game system, but I scoured the internet, and no one will sell me a PS3 for 100. So I shall keep looking.

    Amnesia doesn't really interest me.
  • Why do you "need" to buy anything?
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
    Deferred Gratification
    Would be my advice.

(Also you aren't likely to find a ps3 for under 100, the older versions are costly due to the backwards compatibility, the newer ones are expensive due to them being new :p)

    Fuck that.

I want to buy SOMETHING, mang.
  • But it doesn't even seem like a case of wanting anything. It's splurging money for the sake of splurging money, which is rather wasteful, to say the least.
  • $80+ per session
    I DO want something!

I just have to find something I want.

    smote

Well, then hold onto the money until you have however many other hundred dollars you need to get what you want?

If you absolutely feel you have to invest it, you could put it in a good CD, and you might have $130 in five years. But really, $100 is trivial for investing and just holding onto your money is not a bad decision.

$100 is too slow to wait :<
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Buy some classic literature. B&N has those cheap fancy-looking bound volumes for anything that tickles your fancy.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
My issue with classic lit is that you can usually find it for free online.
  • $80+ per session
Yeah, I'm not gonna buy anything I can get online for free.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
^^I like having physical copies of things, especially when staring that intently at a screen for too long hurts my eyes.
  • $80+ per session
Unless 100 can make my computer run games better, I can't really think of anything.
  • Then don't spend it. Find something fulfilling that doesn't involve money or material goods.
  • $80+ per session
Look, I'm not just going to let 100 sit around forever. That's completely pointless.

Hmmm...there's some pretty good free stuff to occupy you out there. Maybe just spend some time looking into that.

^You won't say that in a few months when a new game you want comes out.

    "That's completely pointless."

    ...

    Kids.

In the real world, you never know when some extra emergency expenditure is going to come up.
