  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Simply put, I don't know much about your nation's race history, but America has had a real fucked-up history concerning imperialism and race relations that still affects us to this day, and few countries are that different (though they can be less bad than us about it) Quite frankly, if you genuinely believe racism isn't an actual problem you either live in a wonderful wonderful place or are sheltered.

Rather than 'kraut' it'd be more likely to be 'colonial' for you.

Of course you would, British pigdog. :p

Essentially, I have a German surname that's somewhat memetic amongst my friends, hence the "kraut".

He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
Juan:It is not an argument at all, although it is a weak justification. I do understand how it affects people, I can see how it is inane and inconsequential is to discriminate over something as skin. I don't see why people are hung up on something so trivial as skin in general.

"Specially when you know damn well how latins are looked down upon by most first world countries." Yup, and look at how many fucks I give: None. It's their problem not mine, I don't have to prove to anyone that latinos are not trash and lazy, I only have to prove I am not trash or lazy.

Malkavian: I am not sheltered, I can vouch for that. About not believing racism to be a problem, that's a wrong assumption, I just say that I don't care about race at all. Although my wording is quite lacking indeed, let me edit that a bit.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
It isn't just skin, though. It's the context for a population that includes skin colour, history, socio-economic position, education and a whole bunch of other things. Race cannot be brought down to one factor, primarily because it doesn't truly exist in the scientific sense. That said, people still accept and consider it as a concept, so it must be dealt with.
  • You can change. You can.

And how easy is to do that when people are inherently thinking you're inferior?

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
It's kind of harder to give no fucks when white trash vandalizes your house telling you to 'go home back to Mexico'.

Honestly my favorite story of unintentionally hilarious racism is an American Indian friend of mine was walking from school a few months after 9/11 with me. Then a truck pulled over, threw a beer can at us (but missed) and screamed 'Why don't you go home?!' then drove off.

We both thought it was the funniest damn thing, though I am worried those people committed actual violence on other people.

^Or denying you jobs, or assuming things about your intelligence and patronizing, or outright ostracizing you for it.

Let's not even get into hate crimes.

I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
    @View of 'latins'
From my experience I wouldn't say your are looked down on in the UK.
We don't appear to have a real stereotype for you, US media does a bleed a bit of the 'drug lord' stuff through but it isn't very common.

I actually can't recall ever hearing 'colonial' said out loud.
More likely you'd be ozzie/aussie and something about beer surfing and prawns on a barbie.
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
Not easy, but still not impossible. I have experienced lots of US racism thanks to Xbox Live, so I am not inherently speaking of theory here, and as well Call Center experience is enlightening in various respects, I remember one call that said I was the first person this old lady could understand at all, which is a biased opinion.

Ozzy doesn't seem like it would be a good insult on Alex for a very specific reason.

  • You can change. You can.
I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's incredibly hard when it shouldn't be.

One foot in front of the other, every day.
^^^^ In the same vein, "pom" is you. Often extended to "pommy bastard". Note that "bastard" is almost a term of endearment in this country. :D

We tend to refer to ourselves as "Aussies", because Australia has a cultural undercurrent of shortening any word that can be shortened. I'm almost sure this carries some element of trivialisation, especially given the popular standard response of "she'll be right", referring to a problem righting itself.

It is kinda telling I guessed which Ozzy song was it goint to be on the link,

Yeah pom/aussie stuff is just really friendly banter.
Mostly the same with England talking with Wales/Scotland. (Maybe Ireland, it depends really.)
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
Anyway, Juan, while I can agree with that, I refuse to allow other people's hang ups to affect the way I live my life.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Courtesy of having an English grandfather, Wales and Scotland are also favourite targets of mine.
  • You can change. You can.

Oh, I agree, but I just think that there's nothing wrong with a level of social consciousness.
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
Uncompromising till the end that's the way I want to live my life, though,
  • You can change. You can.
You don't have to be compromised to understand why is racism a big deal.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

^Won't lie, that was my first thought.
  • They're somethin' else.

"You don't have to be compromised to understand why is racism a big deal."

I already said I missworded that part, I meant race is not a big deal to me, and even so, I've realized my approach was wrong.

Schitzo: Hey, I give two shits, man. TWO!
