How the games go into Kill Mode when doing a Nuzlocke Run

On Black? Two faints so far

On White? Already lost three Pokemon

In this case, it's reasonable, as Black is being played only up to as far as I am on White

But on Soul Silver?

Bloody knock outs EVERYWHERE. I didn't have HALF the number of faints through the whole game! Soul Silver, which is on Hiatus? Knock outs everywhere (4 or 5 around or in Ecruteak alone), and I only have 5 badges

I'm betting its a case of me forgetting all the times my Pokemon fainted before because it didn't matter then and it matters in a Nuzlocke and blah blah blah. But I swear that the game is out to get me only when I do a Nuzlocke

Comments

  • I'm trying this for the first time on Black, and I'm being a lot more careful than usual. Haven't had any faints or missed catches yet as of after the first gym and without any restarting.
  • Scratch that, just had my Panpour bite the dust to a OHKO from a Bide.
  • Nuzlocke runs?

Don't like them. Pokemon is too linear to enjoy it.

    Pony Sleuth
Nevermind what I said. All my shit is dying and I only have two usable dudes left, neither of which is my starter.

And... that's it. Everyone kicked the bucket.

    Now to play normally.

Gelzo: That nearly happened to me at the second gym. Left me with just a level 6 Lillipup in the box

I grinded that mutt to a level 27 Herdier. The resulting battle could only be described as rape (Her Pokemon are 21 at highest, if I recall)
  • This game got a lot less interesting after I gave up on the run, but I hear that this generation is harder than the others for this, so I guess I can't feel too bad about failure.

I have a copy of Pearl and one of Heart Gold that have just been sitting for months. I think maybe I'll borrow my brother's DS this spring break, make some trades, and try a run on one of them. Probably Heart Gold.

Gelzo: Yeah. I heard that the main reason Black and White are so hard is due to the fact that the Pokemon are so new. We have had years to get familiar with the older Pokemon, and even new games had some old ones that we could go, "Oh, yeah, I know how to use this!"

With Black and White, we need to relearn, so it is like, "Oh, this looks like it will be great against that tadpole thi-THE RAPE OH GOD THE RAPE WHY!?"

A recommendation: Try to leave at least one Pokemon in your box at all times (although try to keep at least two in your party at all times as well. Better to have two Pokemon in your party and win with one fatality then one in the party, die, use the one in the box, then die again all because they are just slightly too strong)
  • I recall being mildly scared the first time I saw a Timburr because I had no idea what the hell kind of typing it had.

Also, I never expected Bide to be such a bitch.

Tip: Pray you get a Swaddle/Swadloon/Leavenny if you try again. They get protect

    Then:

    Bide! You attack
    Storing Energy! You attack
    You use Protect! Bide fails!

    u mad, bide user?

Saved me a few times, as did opening with leer in early game

Also, Timburr... GRAGH I HATE THAT THING! Took out three, yes, THREE of my party members! A wild one killed my Blitzle, and a trainer one killed both Woobat (That is the SECOND time a surprise Rock Slide got me (first time killed my Beedrill with perfect attack and speed in SoulSilver. Yeah, I got lucky with that find on my run)) and my Snivy (The game showed it as, "My attack will kill it. On the off chance it doesn't, I will survive". You know what the RNG gave me? A minimum damage roll on Vine Whip and a maximum non critical hit from Timburr. The chances reminded me not to be bloody cocky on a Nuzlocke run")

And then Lenora... I thought I would win that time. I didn't expect an attack that does heavy damage when you just knocked out their Pokemon. Also: Hypnosis spam. No wonder I trained my Lillipup into a level 27 Herdier that could one hit everything
  • I think I might just grind the fuck out of my party if I try this again.

That is also a good idea, Gelzo

Oh, a tip: Black and White redid the experience formula, so you gain more experience the lower your level is along with the higher your opponent's level is. It's enough that a level 6 Lillipup gained five levels from defeating a level 9 Audino

Also, kill Audino. They give crap tons of experience points
