70+$ for 3 discs each if you want the LEs. That's 220+ for the whole series. WTF this ain't Japan dammit (At least the announced dub actresses are reportedly very good)

Um... that's actually relatively normal.  I mean, weren't the Haruhi limited editions $50-60 each for 4 discs?  So about the same price total.  They're limited editions anyway, so the only reason you'd get them is if you're a really dedicated fan.  I imagine the regular DVDs will have an MSRP of $30 or so (though I don't feel like checking) which means you'll actually be able to buy them for like $20 each new, so the whole series will be about $60, which is alright.

I've never seen a singls second of Madoka, but I still want buy these.

I'm going to blind-buy. According to contempary anime fandom, the series is better than an orgasm made tangible on a disc....

Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
It's good, but not that good.
  • Oh well

I'll buy anything with cute girls on it anyway. And I like deconstructions
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I don't consider Madoka a deconstruction. Most of the things that make it dark are additions to, rather than extensions of, the genre conventions.

Yeah, don't watch it expecting a deconstruction (by TVTropes' definition).  It's just a Nanoha-esque magical girl show, except darker and SHAFT-ier.  You may like it, since a lot of people certainly did, but... it's really not a deconstruction at all.  Something closer to a deconstruction of the magical girl genre would be, like, Revolutionary Girl Utena, though even then it's not really the same kind of thing as what's implied by "deconstruction" (again, as TV Tropes defines it).
  • You can change. You can.
I'd argue there are some deconstructive elments, such as magical girls not being entirely good due to the fact that they fight towards a goal that is not justice and so on, similar to how most magical girls work for a bigger force carrying a task.

But I know jackshit about magical girls except for a couple of shows i watched when i was a kid, so.

Anyway, to tell you the truth, as much as i enjoyed it, i do think it's an overhyped series. Specially because of how...circular the writing is at times and hoe Sayaka's character arc is so fast due to the pacing they had to work with. Not to mention that she ends up becoming just an indirect exposition tool, rather than a character.

Yeah, magical sentai warriors are only one subset of the genre.

    "And I like deconstructions"

I think you might like Kingdom Hearts then.

  • You can change. You can.
If Kingdom Hearts is a deconstruction, then I'm motherfucking Bruce Wayne.

But it's so full of darkness!

(seriously, this video tends to sum up a significant portion of the arguments for something being labelled a deconstruction in the Tvtropes sense)

He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
Sayaka's character progression is the only thing that bothers me from madoka, her muggle friend showed interest in violin-boy for the sake of plot advancement rather than character development.

Literally everything that happened to Sayaka happened for the sake of plot advancement or exposition rather than character development.  Any character development she did get was only as a side effect of her role as a plot device.
  • You can change. You can.
Which is sad as Sayaka was my favorite character when the show started. Between Madoka's whinyness and constant attempts at being cute, Mami being all big sister and Homura being mysterious waif number 9595037u509, she actually had charisma and made jokes.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

Usually, they fight for an ideal. The ones here just fight for themselves. For example- Sailor Moon fought- I believe because she had to actually :c  Sakura fought to recapture the Clow Cards, etcetera.

Mai-HiME is closer to a deconstruction.
  • You can change. You can.
What I meant is that they work for a higher force that tells them what to do and so on. didn't Sakura had some sort of cat-fuck thing telling her what to do? And Sailor Moon had Luna.
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
Kerberos, and he was more of a half-assed assistant than anything.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    Not really :C

In fact, I'm pretty sure it's the other way around, and Sakura is Cerberus' master, with cerberus acting as a guide due to his knowledge of the Clow Cards, but Sakura ultimately set the goals.

Traditionally, the role of the familiar/mascot character in a magical girl show is to give the main character their powers (or explain them or whatever) and give them some objective, but generally after that they mostly just serve as an assistant or something similar, with the magical girl(s) herself(/themselves) usually being in control.
