Indentured Media Consumptitude Trading Post Thread

Silly idea I had, not sure if it's tenable.

I notice that a lot of people, and I guess I'm not an exception, want more people to notice X show or comic or movie, but are reluctant for whatever reason to try out suggestions made to them.

So here's the deal, in exchange for having someone watch or read a given quantity of some thing you like, you have to agree to do the same for something they want to share. Naturally, we'll want both sides to figure out the deal beforehand so this doesn't turn into a media truth and dare without the truth. (Actually, that doesn't sound all that bad...)

Here, I'll make an offer. If there are any TTGL fans who haven't, read the first, uh, 20 pages of Double K. It's a TTGL buddy cop fan-fiction webcomic, but I swear it's better than it sounds, unless that already sounds awesome. You'd probably enjoy it if you like things like The Punchline is Machismo. In exchange I'll read 20 pages of your comic or watch a YouTube video or something.

Okay, as soon as I figure out computers...

For that matter, I'm going to have to edit the OP. I have a bad habit of writing out of order, and sometimes I forget to return to finish a sentence.

    Looks good so far.
  • You can change. You can.
So I need to go to class. I left it at 052. It's amazing. Gotta love Chief Genome.
  • You're already through more than half of it. Probably a dick move for me to introduce it before it ends.
  • I approve of this thread. Now I just have to come up with a bargain less ridiculous than "The entirety of LotGH for 110/55 episodes of any given series"
  • Lord of the Great Heart? Legend of the Gay Homo?

I hope I'm not the only one that sees this acronym as opaque as I do.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
    Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

I only know because he talks about it sometimes.
  • You aren't supposed to use acronyms for something people haven't heard of. I'd even consider SSBM borderline.
  • Legend of the Galactic Heroes is pretty well known, and more importantly he mentions it a lot...
  • "Legend of the Gay Homo?"

    I wish it was that.

^ For the record, I didn't know what he was talking about either.
  • Thane of rum-guzzling and necromancy
    Sign me up, I guess...

All of the Superman DC comics gogogogogo

(Also, I'm amused by how LoGh has become "That animu Noimporta likes")
  • I don't talk to Noimporta very frequently, so there we are.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
I like this thread.  Though I probably wont participate much in it.
  • You can change. You can.
Eh, I just noticed it by how Forzare and DYRE said he knew it because Noimporta likes it. Not like it's less true.

anyway, I'd be up for Legend of the Galactic Heroes if I get a link. In return, I'd say you should try Buffy or Doctor Who, because long runners.

Well, I used acronyms because I specified that a 100 episode tradeoff seemed ridiculous, I assumed most would know what I'm talking about, and even if they didn't, it wouldn't really be important, since I wasn't actually bringing it to the table. I apologize if it caused confusion.

^Torrents for the english subs are everywhere, this place has all the episodes subbed in spanish, but the subs are pretty bad. As for Doctor Who, my family has suddenly started watching it, so I guess I could use this chance to give in to the pressure.
  • Going through 100 episodes isn't THAT bad as long as it's a good show and doesn't have filler. That's like, what, 4 or 5 seasons?

For buffy it'd be exactly the first five seasons + 10 episodes of the six seasons, if we're doing a full exchange, but I think it'd be unreasonable as the idea is to get a taste of each other's recommendation and then see if we follow through with it or just drop it.

And welp, depends on how do we define filler, really, because both Who and Buffy have filler and lots, but I'd argue that many of those episodes were better than the actual story arcs.

As for Doctor Who, my family has suddenly started watching it, so I guess I could use this chance to give in to the pressure.

Still, I'd recommend that you try to hunt for particular episodes. I love Who as much as the next guy, but it's the most hit or miss show out there.

Well, if you would tell me which episodes/arcs are worth watching, I'd be grateful.

As for Legend, here's a chart

People normally say Blink, but I think the Empty Child/The Doctor Dances two parter in season one is pretty much the best way of either telling you're interested in the show or not, really.

And thank ye kindly, good sir.
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
I will to a music album of yours, in exchange for you listening to Marina and The Diamonds album tilted: The Family Jewels.

    No skipping tracks or anything.
  • You can change. You can.

Cuz I'm bored and I'm really needing a Tv series to watch, I'll be willing to trade in a season of The Wire. At least, in terms of time. :p
