^^ The funniest irony about your statement is that the state of Maryland itself is extremely ugly-looking geographically in the first place.  It's like you take all the land that's not part of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, DC, or Delaware, and called it Maryland.

^ Presumably, though, that at least has some kind of tradition behind it. IIRC Maryland as a British colony pre-dated all of those other states except Virginia and perhaps Delaware. It ended up being the shape it is through its historical development and those of its neighbours .
