  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
It's pretty funny to consider the term racist because terms like that and wapanese basically came out of the orientalism of otaku.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
(Finally, I will get my long awaited revenge)

Words change meanings with time. I'm talking about "Racist",not "weeaboo"

    (MUAHUAHUAHAUHAHhAHAHHAHUEHE)

    weeaboo = wapanese = white + Japanese
  • I don't see how that is racist. At all. It describes a type of idiot anime fan. That's it.

If "weeaboo" is racist, then "white" and "Japanese" are also racist.

"Weeaboo" is a stupidly silly word, but that doesn't make it racist.
  • Okay, someone on another forum apparently thinks that "Weaboo" comes from a racist term for black people called "jigaboo". So now they think I'm racist for using it.

What the.....that's not where it comes from at all, right?
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Why can't we all just agree that weeaboo is a stupid fucking word and just stop using it?
  • Because internet.
  • How do you be on the internet this long and not know where weeaboo comes from?

The fuck are you doing not reading Perry Bible Fellowship.
  • The people I am talking to apparently have never heard of Perry Bible Fellowship.

I don't intend to cause drama with this thread, by the way. I wanted to ask you guys if you thought the term was racist yourselves.

  • Term sometimes derogatorily refers to people outside of Japan having an excessive interest in Japan/Japanese culture.

Dunno what's racist about that unless behind it is the assumption that only the racially Japanese should have interest in this, or that the Japanese don't have a culture worth paying attention to, and you can't always really know whether that's the case.
  • The guy thought it was racist because he assumed it was formed from the dated racist term "jigaboo" for black people.

  • Well that's false.
  • I showed him the comic.

He said it was still racist.

He then said the word "wapanese" is racist, because it was formed from analogy from "wigger", and therefore "weeaboo" is also racist.

  • They're somethin' else.
I really, really, really don't get the joke behind that comic, and I want to.
  • The joke is that these employees in the company have a game called weeaboo where they paddle people, presumably triggered by mention of the game. This is what is causing them to start going bankrupt, but they don't care because they are too invested in the game.

"Weeaboo" is a word that first came to prominence on the internet through Perry Bible Fellowship's use of it shown above.  Where the PBF creator(s) came up with the idea of using it is beyond me.
  • No rainbow star
...They think wapanese comes from wigger?

...You're dealing with either a troll or an idiot. Either way, give up
  • Kichigai birthday!!
    >Wapanese: Wannabe Japanese
    >Wigger: Wannabe Nigger

I think,I may be wrong though
  • Has friends besides tanks now
"...They think wapanese comes from wigger?"

I heard it the way Nick put it.
  • Wait, now he's saying that Wapanese is racist because....here's his direct reasoning:

"You know that "wapanese" is widely used, right?
If weeaboo's synonymous with "wapanese", then it specifically refers to whites.
It discriminates whites by putting it so their interest in Japan (granted, even though big) is specifically bad; ergo, it's racist."

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I think it's time to accept that your friend is kinda dumb.

It is the single worst meme on the internet, but it's not racist. Just dumb.
  • This guy is German conlanger. He's knows at least three languages and has a very good understanding of lingistics.

Actually, three whole people think the term is racist. They're all conlangers/linguists too.
  • Give me a better reason to sympathize with the plight of those poor whites, why don't you?

Seriously, why are 95% of the reasons for supposed white discrimination so pathetic or thinly veiled supremacy?

  • Do you want me to link the thread it happened on to get some context?

Or would that be importing drama?
  • Ehh, if it's putting a description of a negative attitude in terms of race, how is it not racist?

Admittedly, the implication that the person who got called weeaboo being white isn't always there, but it often is, and when it is, see above.

Note that "weeaboo" can apply to non-whites too.

Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
    >It is the single worst meme on the internet, but it's not racist. Just dumb.

Why? The type very much exists and is incredibly irritating. Yes, the name is silly but, weaboos are silly too.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^I mean the "hijacking an annoying-sounding word from a nonsensical comic without a punchline to mean something because the original word was filtered on 4chan and started with the same letter" part.
  • Likes cheesecake unironically.
Why can't we all just agree that weeaboo is a stupid fucking word and
    just stop using it?

These my be the wisest words I ever read here.
