How do you not suck at programming?

I'd like to get a little more savvy with it, because I think it might end up coming in handy. I don't really want to take classes for it right now because it might sink my GPA and there's something I need to keep that up for for a while. I was wondering if there was a good resource for learning about this in one's spare time.

I already took one course where we learned some things about Java.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Go to the computer section of Barnes & Noble.
  • For the beginner, I would find a good textbook on your language of choice and just go through the book from front to back doing some of the problems in your spare time. Amazon would be a good place to look for the textbook.
  • Maybe I shouldn't have sold the textbook I was using for the class so quickly.

I obtained a copy of Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs to help with my programming knowledge, and I gotta say, it doesn't seem to be helping much.
