Insane troll logic of people sitting in front of me on the streetcar earlier.

Apparently, the fact that both single-celled and multi-celled organisms exist proves the Big Bang didn't happen. Oh, and apparently every living thing grows according to the Fibonacci sequence, therefore God exists. Her logic is infallible because she took a philosophy class once.

  • You can change. You can.
Oh, and apparently every living thing grows according to the Fibonacci sequence, therefore God exists.

Well, the logic behind this is that there's a pattern to growth. Only sentient things work with patterns

No, the logic is, if you take apart a watch and put all the pieces in a cup and then shake the cup, the pieces won't form back together into a watch. Therefore the only way for the Fibonacci sequence to appear in both single-celled and multi-celled organisms is God.

^ Wait, that was her argument?

    Yes.

Er, to be clear, I meant all the pieces of a watch, not...the world or something. She was trying to make a point about how you can't create something complex by random chance, I guess.
  • ...what about the complex things that WERE created by accident?

You know what's a complex thing that was created by accident?

    Poland's national sovereignty.

    @AHR: I dunno lol.

Her boyfriend seemed to be slightly more reasonable; when she started saying things like "it's impossible for something so complex to come by chance" he was like "I dunno, the universe is pretty big and lots of things happen by chance..." and she was all "NO DAMMIT IT'S IMPOSSIBLE". And then she pulled up the bizarre watch analogy.

Tell her to search her feelings, for she knows it to be true.
  • Isn't a god with the capacity to create all this a damn sight more complex than that?

Incidentally, I am pretty sure she actually used the sentence "the universe is more than just the universe" at one point.

    Actually, they will.

Trust me, the desire to shout "STUDYING EVOLUTION FOR FIVE SECONDS DISPROVES EVERYTHING YOU'VE SAID" was quite strong. Fortunately I restrained myself.

  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.

The guy has a lot of great videos like that on his channel.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
Why did you start talking to her and how did the conversation shift to that
  • a little muffled
I didn't talk to her. She was talking to her boyfriend. It's just that they were really loud, and sitting in front of me?
  • Kichigai birthday!!
    Oh I see
