"I know this, I don't need to listen to the teacher"

Goddamit Chagen, if you actually had paid attention to your Geometry teacher, you wouldn't have spent 25 minutes on a single easy problem. I never knew finding the equation for a parallel line to a gven equation would be so aggravating.

  • a little muffled
Just add a constant to it? Unless I'm misunderstanding the question.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Oh god wait till you get to college. It's bad.

    Bad.
  • I sympathize. This kind of mindset was why I did horribly in eight grade a few years ago. Luckily I've gotten over it.
  • No rainbow star
I did that in a biology class once

    Barely passed

Holy shit, when you zone out is when they cover all the new stuff
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
A select group of mature students of university were like this.

However they'd actively challenge the lecturer.

Lecturer: This is why blah blah blah gender etc.
Mature student: Are you sure I think that: blah blah blah.
Lecturer: Well....no, as I was saying...
    Few weeks later.
Mature student: I need to talk about my essay marks, why were they so bad?

That can be petitioned.  If the essay is technically proficient and backs up its argument well with citations (ie, isn't just BS or extended opinion piece and didn't miss anything immediately obvious), they're not really allowed to judge on their opinion of the slant.

As for the OP, you'd be surprised how many college classes aren't worth paying attention to.  I'm taking a 200-level health class intended for college sophomores that has yet to teach anything that wasn't common knowledge by the beginning of middle school.  One of the other classes has yet to bother teaching anything at all.
  • I have a suspicion it was more that the student was being a know-nothing know-it-all.
  • Fair enough.  Flagrant teacher bias is enough of a thing that it's worth mentioning.

Speaking of classes worth paying attention to, the strangest thing about my some of Physics classes is that I've been able to get A- while knowing shit about what I learned afterwards. That's how I know if my professor was bad. With a decent professor, I end up with B or B+.

Thermal was like that for me.  I remember something about the letter Z, and 3/5 was relevant to something, but fuck if I remember anything else but how jackawful the prof was and that by the end we were turning in homework upwards of two weeks before covering the material in lecture.  And yet...A  :|
  • Give them pleasure - the same pleasure they have when they wake up from a nightmare.
A good teacher will teach the student as much as possible while grading them based on effort, whereas a bad teacher will teach you little, acting as if they expect you to know without being taught.

    I've had a few of the latter. ;_;

Hence why in such a situation, you have no choice but to step up your game and figure things out yourself.

Give them pleasure - the same pleasure they have when they wake up from a nightmare.
Please tell me that's an actual series!
  • They're somethin' else.
Sadly, it's only an SNL sketch.
