Seriously. Postmodernism bugs this one. It seems to deconstruct everything without offering possibility of reconstruction, full of self-contradiction and seems to deny that such thing as objective reality exists.
Which might as well be true. This one is not qualified enough to say. But such perspective seems pointless and useless.
"people in physics, math, biology, linguistics, and other fields are
happy to do when someone asks them, seriously, what are the principles
of their theories, on what evidence are they based, what do they explain
that wasn't already obvious, etc? These are fair requests for anyone to
make. If they can't be met, then I'd suggest recourse to Hume's advice
in similar circumstances: to the flames." (Noam Chomsky)
Fine for musings over coffee, but why in the Nine Hells this one is supposed to see it in scientific discussion?
Ahem. Alright. Maybe this one is is just frustrated because she is very tired, physically sick and is currently sitting on the running washmachine with 200 pages of postmodernistic weirdness to read by tomorrow, so of course she cannot claim to be objective.
But it's IJBM, right?

Is the Chomsky quote saying that postmodernists should have to explain their theories and not just use big words to obfuscate things? If so, I agree. My main attempt to understand postmodernism was reading one of the "Introducing..." series of books, where they try to explain complex ideas using illustrations and limited text, and I struggled with that. I could barely get the cartoon version of postmodernism.
Good luck with your reading.
Thanks
It is philosophy... possibly.
And I suppose it is ok.
I mean I'm kinda a Nihilist, which isn't far off. I'm cool with deconstructing stuff and leaving it in a mess all over the place. Looks better that way. Less... arrogant. There is something so stuck-up and spiteful about the way matter tries to be.... things. Stuff. Dun like it. Smash everything and then mix it together all soupy-like. Splash it about a bit. Even things out. Yeah.
What were we discussing again?
Oh yeah. Right. Postmodernism.
And no, there is no "objective reality".
I know this cos.... cos.... Ockham's Razor or something.
Or more like I know it because it takes less thinking about, and I haven't seen any evidence to the contrary. I'm quite prone to changing my mind when there ever seems to be a possibility of my being proven wrong about something, y'know. Folks always seem afraid to be wrong. I got no idea why. Prefer to hold back and remain undecided rather than do the sensible thing, make a choice, stick by it, and then maybe change it if it is proven wrong. Isn't like I've ALWAYS been a Nihilist. I was almost a buddhist once.
Oh yeah... and the way people get a headache when I tell them that I'm totally fine and cool with believing mutually exclusive things. Paradox is just another synonym for a good time.
