How the fuck is this pronounced? I mentally do so as "high-dross-ity", though in some LPs I've watched they say "hydro-city".

That's always bugged me, too. I go with "high-dross-ity", because I like it better.

I always pronounce this as "hydro city", in part because I believe in pronouncing a word like its component parts.

Which means that it's KEE low MEE ter. Because kilo × meter = kilometer.
