Always Chaotic Evil society

edited 2011-09-24 11:15:54 in Media
The question is - how do it's members manage to betray and backstab each other? In order to do so, the victim must trust the trairor at least to some extent. And each member of Always Chaotic Evil species knows that the others are, well, Chaotic Evil and so cannot be trusted. In a society where everyone is ready to stab another in the back and everyone knows and expects it, who would be so foolish as to turn their back in the first place? So this one can't see sudden but inevitable betrayal  ever becoming possible.

  • They expect each other to backstab each other all the time.

So they don't, in case it ends badly for them.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
A wholly evil society doesn't necessarily mean that everyone can and will backstab each other at any given moment. They'll work together until one of them gets into trouble and then the others will drop them like a hot potato.

Also, keep in mind that these kinds of societies are often held in line by some sort of overlord. So most follow him out of loyalty, fear, reverence, or whatever.
  • This actually shows up in The Salvation War, with hell.

Basically, it goes from Chaotic to Lawful, because it's considered standard to be Chaotic.

    Thus. Lawful.
  • Tolkien's Orcs are pretty much Chaotic Evil, and he basically implies that without the big bad boss man (usually Sauron) to keep them all in line they'd be backstabbing each other all the time. Certainly, in the chapters of LOTR where Orcs play a prominent role they're basically always engaged in quarrels and in-fighting.
