"Preorder at [Store Name] for exclusive content!"

Yeah, remember the days when you could buy a game anywhere and you got whatever was on the cartridge? None of this B.S. People who claim gaming is better than ever are deluded. This is just one of the reasons why. If I think of more, I'll make a topic for it.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Gaming is better than ever in some ways. Its peak in terms of accessibility and value to our demographic was probably the early 2000s, though.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
It's quite an annoying practice. Especially since [Store Name] is generally Gamestop, the store infamous for screwing over the developers. I mean, really? That's who they decide to give special treatment?

I still think gaming is doing quite well, though.
  • The content usually isn't THAT amazing anyway. I'm familiar with racing games most, and their pre-order bonues usually are just reskins. Or a car you can get later in the game normally but the pre-order bonus gives it to you at the beginning.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
As much as I'm pimping the game far too much, Dark Souls has some fairly badass pre-order bonuses. Including a guide book that only comes with the pre-order, ever. This is pretty useless if you want to avoid spoilers, except that it'll contain information on gear and upgrade requirements for them. A huge benefit.

Yeah, I preordered Dark Souls. "Collector's edition as universal preorder bonus" should really be done more often.

Of course, that's not a store-exclusive bonus, so it's not really what we're talking about here :P

@Chagen - I agree for the most part. I mean, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 comes with some freaking costumes, WOOP DEE DO. But it is annoying to completionist who like for everything to be unlockable, and for me because I'm a pseudocompletionist (I like for it to be possible but not always to actually do it), and I almost never buy games on launch day, especially nowadays when there's usually a better version later on ("Preorder Skyrim and receive some stupid stuff. Don't preorder it and wind up with the inevitable Game of the Year edition that comes with the expansion packs!")

"Preorder Skyrim and receive some stupid stuff. Don't preorder it and wind up with the inevitable Game of the Year edition that comes with the expansion packs!"
Ah, but I couldn't get the collector's edition that way :D
  • You can change. You can.
I have to admit. Preordering a game when there's a big possibility of a GOTY edition coming up seems a bit dumb.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Well, I can't get a map, a 200-page artbook and a massive statue from the GOTY edition.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Wait, does the Dark Souls special edition come with a map? Because I know there's no in-game map, and it's a huge open world.

(Which is, of course, part of the point; you have to work it all out yourself.)
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I was talking about the Skyrim special edition.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
I know, but I guess I was being unclear. Thinking in tangents and all.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    Ah.

To my knowledge, the Dark Souls one doesn't have a map, unless it's in the strategy guide.
  • You can change. You can.
Well, I can't get a map, a 200-page artbook and a massive statue from the GOTY edition.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the appeal in the first and third one. Unless Skyrim doesn't have a map in game.
  • >a map, a 200-page artbook and a massive statue

    uwahhhh, stop making me drool

what are you doing to me

    need

    gawwwhh
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^I'm mostly interested in the second and third.

^Um...sorry if I went into "marketing executive" mode there >.>
  • You can change. You can.
But why the statue? I mean, sure it looks pretty, but it seems like a waste, specially when you could use the money to buy the future expansions.
  • curse you for already ordering and no longer having a choice. :< It's so hard~!
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    ^^Idunno, I like statues.

^I could switch back, but I don't wanna.
  • But you never had any to begin with.
Actively waiting for a GOTY release seems silly. Shivering Isles was released a year after Oblivion, and the GOTY edition took even longer.
  • You can change. You can.
Yeah, I admit there's some truth to that, but all I'm saying is that if it comes between paying for expansions on the game or just some silly collectible, I'd prefer paying for the expansions.
