Contradicting advice about college

edited 2011-03-04 11:53:13 in General
The way my academic counselor talks, a good GPA and high SAT scores are what gets you into college, including such things as automatic admission. But the way my other teachers have been talking, specific and arbitrary things beyond that are what decides whether or not you get in, including taking four years of science classes even though only three years are required and I don't even want to pursue a scientific career (this advice coming from my biology teacher, incidentally). So are these guys just trying to scare me, or does this bizarre selectiveness they describe hold water?

A good GPA and high SAT scores are the first hurdle. But that doesn't narrow it down enough. So depending on the college, there are lots of other criteria.

    What INUH said.

Depending on the school, having good SAT scores and a good GPA might be enough to get you into the school, but (especially for more selective schools) they're going to want to see things like taking more/harder academic classes, extracurriculars, and other stuff like that too.
