The connection between Nikes and Sheeple

edited 2011-03-04 02:23:42 in General
They're somethin' else.
I don't see it. Why do I keep hearing this cached joke? What is it about buying Nikes (or any type of sneaker, for that matter) that makes a person a conformist waste of flesh?

  • Because it's a company with a questional workforce and can afford commercials.

Most people tend to do that on a regular basis. Anything you hear about more than once on TV or are associated with sports will be branded "sheeple products".
  • I'LL STAY MAI HAUNDS...WITH YAU BLAHT
Nike in particular has a bad track record with human rights violations, so you've got that air of moral indignation as well.

If you buy Nike products because you like them, you're not conformist. If you buy them because they're part of some trend, you are a time traveler. I think it's those questionably-named Ugg boots and Crocs these days.

Or, if you're into running or hiking, those stupid foot shoes.
  • They make a lot of some-what nice Basketball shoes too, although they are good in-name-only, because other companies that do make them generally don't sell their shoes in the United States, so we have to go with Nike, Adidas and the rest of those companies.
  • "Questional"?
  • ^ Now I wish that were a word, for some reason.
  • I'd use it as a synonym for the adjective "interrogatory."
