Why do you like typefaces and fonts so much? Do you work at a company that makes them, are they fun to collect, or are you an avid reader that likes the way things are typed/written?

After spending a day not posting just for funnies, he arrives.

So KCNC upgraded its newscasts to high definition in 2008, and the graphics used this fascinating geometric sans serif. I asked on sportslogos.net what it was, and was answered with Gotham. Somehow, that was my gateway into the wonderful world of type.

Funny, I think my fascination with type probably started when I realized something was using the "wrong" typeface. Probably a street sign or something.

Actually, I think it was a Bob Evans Restaurant sign that had "RESTAURANT" in Helvetica instead of the normal typeface. And that bugged me.

Though mine apparently goes back well before 2008; mother sometimes tells me about the time when I was 2 or 3 and apparently shouted at a restaurant's menu about the ugly typeface.

I recall when I was like 5 and I was using MS Paint for the first time (though it was called "Paintbrush" back then) and I demanded Mother change the font from whatever the default was (probably MS Sans Serif) to Arial Bold.

That's the earliest typeface/font experience I can remember.

It (and its big brother Verdana) strikes me as a very specialized face; good at what it's meant to do (be readable on computer screens), but little else.
