The only female anime character I feel I can relate to is

Balalaika from Black Lagoon. You know, the russian military commander with a hobby of starting international wars and shooting people. I feel so empty inside. Perhaps I need to watch more anime.

Either her or Revy.

  • Not really.

I don't relate to weaker default-base chicks either.

I've related to Asuka, Ecl--wait let me install alternate keyboards so that I can type her name correctly.  Be back in a bit.
  • Why not just use your quickbar'd Charmap?

Install this.  Much more convenient than having to use a new keyboard layout.  You can just type, like, n~ then hit INSERT and you get ñ.  Similarly for other characters.

I know you weren't really serious, but...

    ^ It's Éclair.

    That was a quick derail.

«I've gotten it to work!  Yes!»

Female animé characters I have identified with Asuka Langley Soryu, Éclair, Yukari Morita, and to some extent Shima "Shipon" Katase and Mikaze Honjou.
  • The only female anime character I can relate to isn't even an anime character.

I don't really find myself identifying with fictional characters.

Probably because I don't actually have a personality (or so I keep saying, even though I guess that doesn't actually make sense).  So there's nothing for me to associate with.

    Or something.
  • Surely you could identify with the one-dimensional lolis?
  • Since I feel like answering that seriously... nope.  At least, none that I can think of.  I can think of characters (one-dimensional loli character or otherwise) that I share some traits with, but I never think like "Oh I can totally relate with what this character is thinking/feeling/doing/etc."
I sort of wish I could, actually.
    I dunno why.
  • I used to relate to Meilin from Cardcaptor Sakura, to the point that even now, I often end up paying far more attention to her than the titular character. Seeing someone with an inferiority complex brought on by being a normal surrounded by magic, yet outwardly trying to be the best at everything really struck a chord with my younger self (and traces of my present self). It was certainly different from the usual children's show characters who were either braggarts needing to learn humility or timid people needing to learn confidence.
  • I don't really find myself identifying with fictional characters.

    Me neither.

I wonder what it feels like...
  • Obviously people's personalities are too variable for one to fully align with a fictional character's personality, particularly since you don't get to know them as well. Still, since they use real people as templates, people can recognize certain traits or situations in themselves or others around them.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
That's exactly it--personality traits or other characteristics of fictional characters align with part of ourselves or the people we know.

"I don't really find myself identifying with fictional characters."

This. It felt quite weird, when I realized that I can relate to Sei Sato a bit... But really only a bit and she is the only one.
  • Maybe our personality traits just don't make for a good story?
  • That's why shows like The Real World are so popular. They aren't written characters. Easier to relate to. And they are real, so instead of a 0% chance to have your OTP becoming true or inserting yourself into their world to go after your waifu/husbu, there is a 0.001% chance to do so.
  • Isn't the point of a fictional mate that you're not supposed to actually live with them, so you can maintain your imagination of doing whatever you want with them? With side effects including Draco In Leather Pants?
