  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
except he's constantly persecuted and accused at every single possible change by JJJ. Sure, lack of evidence, but still...

That's from a media source, constantly slandering his name without offering anything up to show he is a menace. The police aren't after him- he's still going around saving people. He still has the public on his side. They still see him as a hero. See the fight with Green Goblin in 1, and the train scene in 2. The people of New York see Spiderman as their hero.

Sure, not everyone there does. But enough do.

Anyway, my problem with it is just that the fact of the matter is that Dent went insane. He wasn't corrupt. He didn't act as a corrupt person during his tenure as DA of Gotham, and I don't see how any judge would go and say that him being insane during a period of his life that doesn't correspond with his period as a DA and that that would retroactively destroy all the evidence, arguments, and work put on not just by him, but by the whole DA office as a whole.

    That is what happens though.

Tell me, how do you expect them to know he wasn't insane during his trial period?

Even in our day and age, cases get thrown out of court if the police officers prosecuting the case are revealed to have done stuff.

    .

    Regardless... That's not my point.

My point is that it would be worse for Gotham if he hadn't done it. If he hadn't taken the blame... Harvey Dent would have been destroyed as a figure of hope.

Holy shit Malkavian don't post at the same time I do after the thread's been dead for hours
  • You can change. You can.
Also, it's worth noting that the primary villain in Rises is going to be Bane, who is more physical villain as opposed to Raz'z and Joker who were more cerebral. I wonder how that's going to affect the film.

    Grrrrrrr.

Malk, we used to be bros.
  • I'm a damn twisted person
The people of New York see Spider-man as their hero.

It's actually pretty hit or miss for him. About half the people he saves will chew his head off for slightly inconveniencing them. Especially after he saved them from something like a mugger or a rampaging alien robot from a past alternate dimension piloted by a hyper intelligent ape.

    In the movies.
  • You can change. You can.
In the movies too, actually. It took two movies forr Spiderman to be widely beloved and not just a peep everyone feared except in the climax where everyone realized he was the lesser of two evils.

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Spider-man never deliberately takes on the role of the villain, though. He's actively frustrated at his being cast as the villain. It's one of the many separations he has from Batman. It actually ties into what makes Batman different from the citizens in Batsuits with guns, aside from not wearing hockey pants. Those citizens and Spidey have actual lives. They're willing to help. They're just not willing to risk what's precious to them to do it. With Batman, IT'S ALL HE DOES. It's a question of dedication and methodology.

    Oh, and resources help too.

^^^^I'm not saying Bane is dumb. I'm saying that the villains in those movies didn't pose the physical threat that Bane is going to. This is the man who broke the bat after all.

... Except that I'm comparing Spiderman and Harvey Dent (Not Two-Face). I'm comparing how the public views them by the end of the second movie, and how each influenced the people of the town they live in.
  • You can change. You can.
Except that by the end of the Second Movie, the influence of other people in Spiderman's emphatized. Seriously, apart from that kid who lived next to Aunt May, who did he inspire?
  • $80+ per session
All the people on the train.

Oh, yeah, them. Forgot that scene happened.

Anyway, the thing is, that they don't represent the whole of NYC, which is partly my point. Spiderman isn't universally admired. He has the media on his ass. Is constantly thought of as a horror under that mask, etc etc.

And who is lessening his influence, and with what tactics?

    JJJ. Thought I said that.

    The Daily Bugle?

Negative press/media- exactly what would happen to Dent if it leaked out.
  • You can change. You can.
Different contexts, cities, citizens, etc etc make me believe that the juxtaposition of the two doesn't work that brilliantly.

    If you say so.
