Ants discovered my apartment

I don't consider myself squeamish and I guess they aren't going to hurt anything, really. I've seen the odd ant here and there before this morning, but I didn't think much of it. But when you see your carpet and it looks like a goddamn screenshot of SimAnt, it is a little bit unsettling.

It's not like I've been living in squalor, but I'm gonna try to be more careful about leaving food out and keeping the place cleaned. Maybe I should have taken out the trash a day earlier...

    Heh.

Soon you'll be chased out your house!

Your only defence is to go mow the lawn and hope the ants get squished.
  • When I first moved to London, I lived in a basement bedsit and at one point ants started coming in through the bottom of the door-frame. I scattered tons of ant-killing powder around the place they were coming in and they stopped, so I recommend you do the same.

That flat also used to have silverfish, so every time I came in and and turned on the light, you'd get a load of them scuttling for cover. Amazingly, I lived there for two years.

  • I've been fighting ants all summer, so I know that feeling.
  • I'm not sure where they're coming in. I'm guessing the window, and I already closed it. The only other obvious entrance is the door, but I think it'd probably be harder for them to find the food smells through there.

If I mention it to my landlord, will they think I'm being a slob or end up tearing the place apart with cleaning? They've seemed like pretty decent and reasonable people so far.

Ugh, this could be a lot easier to deal with if I had a little vacuum.

    Spread ant killing powder everywhere?
  • Your landlord's more likely to want to do something to get rid of the ants than to make a fuss about you. I don't think ants invading is necessarily a sign that you aren't keeping the place clean either. It's not like getting mice or rats.

    Burn the place down?
