Not sure if I can trust expiration dates.

This bag of salad expired three weeks ago, but it doesn't look that bad...

Three weeks seems pretty long for produce, but I'm not sure from looking at it.

Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Open the bag and smell the salad.
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
    Eh it's salad.
As long as it doesn't look rotten it's probably ok.
  • No rainbow star
Expiration dates are more like, "It is fresh until this date. After this point it may or may not start to go bad"
  • Noted. I'll try it tomorrow. Tonight I just ended up eating leftover pizza.

I really should be eating a little healthier, but I can't really cook for shit.
  • No rainbow star
^ Then cook for yourself and not for shit :D
  • a little muffled
It depends on the product, dunnit? Like, if it's milk, I'd be a bit wary even the day before the expiry date.
  • I'm sure. Heck, I think I've seen some products that have gone bad before the date.

It's just I don't really think I know what every sort of food looks like when it spoils.
  • I hate this with milk. Last week I inadvertently used some that tasted like it was spoiled. And the expiration date was like two days away.
  • I ate a pie that was several days past its sell-by date last week (because I left it in the fridge for ages). I'm still alive. I think they're over-cautious with those dates in the UK.
  • I think they tend to be over-cautious in general, except in cases where the food spoils fast enough that they can't afford to do that and still sell food. Hence, milk.
