Do the Dango Daikazoku (Interactive CLANNAD Liveblog)
Comments
Hi, I'm Forzare.
You may remember me from my aborted Higurashi liveblog, or as that one guy who won't shut the fuck up about Higurashi.
So, Clannad. I'm sure most of you here have heard of it. Essentially, it's a bishoujo dating sim/visual novel from the Japanese company Key Visual arts, where there's like a dozen different girls you can fall in love with, and also a whiny blonde dude who gets punched a lot.
"Hmmm..." You might say, "Key Visual Arts sounds pretty familiar. What else have they made?" You probably remember them as the company that releases games with horrible, terrifying inhuman abominations poorly disguised as cute girls.
Those eyes can see forever.
Anyway, Clannad.
Released in 2004, Clannad is one of the few visual novels that doesn't feature any kind of explicit sex, which is good for me, because I don't have to skip scenes or learn how to censor pictures.
THE PROTAGONIST
Tomoya Okazaki: He's kind of a douche. He hates his town, and his family, and he always skips school. What a guy. No wonder the ladies all fall for him.
THE LOVE INTERESTS
And those are our heroines. This liveblog is going to be interactive, in that each time a choice pops up, I'll pause the post and ask for input. Whatever choice gets the most votes/best reasons/whatever will be chosen, and we'll see where the story takes us.
THIS IS A DICTATORSHIP THAT TAKES SUGGESTIONS
maybe I should just stick with okazaki tomoya
Prologue: Hearing Voices
We open with an interior monologue.
Tomoya hates this town, because it's full of bad memories for him. He says that nothing new ever happens, which as we all know from Fooly Cooly is the one sure way to make sure that weird stuff happens.
As he walks to school, Tomoya doesn't encounter any other students, because he's late. He doesn't particularly give a shit, though.
He stands at the base of the hill before school and heaves a sigh.
When suddenly, a voice.
A girl is standing there, with great big unnatural pointy hair things and scary eyes.
Maybe it's because you don't go to school.
I know that feel, bro. School sucks.
Okay...?
'Yes, that's why I'm so late.'
Who else would she be talking to?
Talking to the voices inside you is a mental illness. Get out of there, Tomoya!
Suddenly, Tomoya speaks up, sticking his nose in where it doesn't belong.
She's not very observant.
You were just talking about how miserable you are and how much you hate this place. What gives?
And off they march up the hill together.
I don't know what this says.
So that's the prologue. Tomoya went to school, met a strange crazy girl in his own year that he's never seen before, and became strangely philosophical.
Huh.
Anyway, I haven't really decided how I want this to go yet. I'm not too happy with this post, and I dunno if I want to take a more general, descriptive approach to the liveblogging, or if I want to do more of a MST3K thing like I tried with Higurashi. Thoughts?
^Yeah, that's what turned me off. I tried watching an episode for a liveblog but lolno.
^^ it is the stuff nightmares are made of
He's calling for Tomoya's only friend, Sunohara.
At least they have something in common.
Truly something to be proud of.
Our hero, ladies and gentlemen.
What a productive day.
'All I did was sit in the corner, stare out the window, and think about how my life is pain.'
Nothing amazing happens here. Everything is ordinary.
My dad is like the virgin mary, only he's a dude.
Don't ask me how that works. He told me once, and it was not a pretty story.
Then you did have a mother to begin with.
So that's where he gets it from.
With those genes, Tomoya has a bright future ahead of him.
"Now, Tomoya-kun, show me on the doll where he touched you..."
Among other things.
And by other things I mean his bitch slappin' hand.
I dunno much about honorifics, but wouldn't -kun be the right one for your son?
Honest question.
Maybe he just feels bad.
THAT MONSTER.
That'll show him not to make pleasant conversation.
How the hell do you think you're going to graduate?
He's like a ninja.
Breaking windows, stealing shit... You know, the usual delinquent stuff.
So Tomoya buys some food from a convenience store, and heads down to the student dormitories to go hang out with Sunohara.
What a rebel.
Haha, he's poor.
Tomoya heads inside, and...
This sounds promising.
Unfortunately for you (or not, I dunno lol), I'm going to leave it off here. Is some guy about to beat his wife? Is Sunohara about to get his ass kicked? Is someone about to deck Tomoya? Tune in next time!
Honest question."
And yeah, that's kind of how I felt writing it. Hopefully more good setups will appear once the girls show up.
