Underappreciated works

edited 2011-08-17 12:55:04 in Media
OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
So I was just thinking about the fact that Monster, 20th Century Boys and Vinland Saga all seem to have smaller fanbases than Naruto's. I died a little inside.

  • Has friends besides tanks now
So do most anime. And most nerd works, really. Doesn't make Naruto suck any less, though.
  • They're somethin' else.
    Same for Berserk.

    Kichigai birthday!!
This reminds me of how Redline has flopped in Japan.

At least I hope it does well in the Western world, it does seem like a movie that appeals more to American and European tastes

  • You can change. You can.
this world needs more gotham central fans.

I won't stop pimping it till I find a new obsession.
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
    ^I am interested.
  • You can change. You can.
well, go and buy it, you son of an everloving cunt.
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
^I will at some point. Gotta get my mom and b-day present and then pay some bills next week.
  • I need a reactionface for this thread, but can't be arsed to find one.

Assume I posted the "Tommy Lee Jones sternly disapproves" one.
  • I'll post it for you.
  • That's very kind of you, thanks.
  • You can change. You can.
...wait, did noimporta not use a chance to pimp LoGH/Rahxephon/Twin Peaks?

    ...

I'm sorry, but it's like...how fucking weird is that?
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
He only needed to pimp it once to get people aware of it. He doesn't need to constantly remind us it exists.

Which is why I am watching it after I finish the Death Note manga and the Higurashi VNs.
  • Silver Age Beach Boys, man. Way too good to have such few listeners.
  • You can change. You can.
@Vorpy: you didn't even say what you were going to watch outta those three

^ No, that's Golden Age. I'm talking about the stuff from Smiley Smile to Holland.

Also, the story of the original recording of Smile is intensely fascinating to me, so I don't really want to listen to Smiley Smile. You understand, right?
  • Yeah, I get that. But you still should, just for the splendor of hearing them sing, with one of the grooviest melodies ever put to wax, "You're too late mama, ain't nothin' upside yo' head."
  • The notion of underappreciated works just bugs me because it seems people just pick a definition that allows them to claim their favourite work is underappreciated regardless of how much acclaim or raw audience statistics it actually has. Most of the time, I constantly hear about a work that is supposedly "underappreciated".

Though I am more accepting of the term if people use underappreciated as the relative term it is rather than as an absolute.

^Fair point. That's why I mentioned that I meant they were underappreciated relative to stuff like Naruto.
