They call me Rate Miser, whatever I see... turns overrated in my eyes...
It looks somewhat unprofessional (putting names of many shooters in its title), provides articles that can be found for free on the internet, and a flower doesn't really have anything to do with scrolling shooters. There are similar books for Irem's games, if I remember correctly (though I can't find them now).

  • Kichigai birthday!!
Well maybe the flower is an homage to misleading shooting covers

Another problem with this book is that the long, unformatted list of shooters cuts off at the middle of the title, R-Type II seems to be mentioned yet R-Type I isn't (unless it's part of the full list), and the description seems to spout off titles with no rhyme, reason, or order.

At least Phalanx's cover art has a ship on it.

  • But you never had any to begin with.
Zero Wing? I know it's memetic, but it's one of Toaplan's weakest releases.

I thought Zero Wing was too generic and boring for me to continue past Stage 3. Gradius Syndrome (when it comes to bosses) and weak level design are big problems, and the latter makes the stages feel very long (if they aren't already). While I may be exaggerating on stage length, the game is still boring and forgettable. Two of the endings (there's one for Easy, Normal, and Hard) feature prunes, though, and the arcade version's ending has the prunes and an engrish wall of text.

Back on the book, I think the creators of the book just looked up a bunch of shooters and just dumped a bunch of free internet articles on the shooters for their book to appear to have content. Problem is, the description mentioned the free articles, probably to avoid problems and complaints.

    What's Gradius Syndrome?
