I'm working on becoming a film/television writer and eventually director. I used to think it was an impossible dream, but it isn't as much as people think.
  • ^^^ At one point when it looked as if I was about to be made redundant from being a property lawyer, I actually considered retraining as an intellectual property lawyer myself. I couldn't see why anyone would bother paying a 36 year old guy to learn a new job, though, so I stuck to property.

    "Phoenix Wright"

...is, sadly, fictional. I also wanted to be like that when I first studied law.

  • Give them pleasure - the same pleasure they have when they wake up from a nightmare.
Phoenix Wright is incredibly unrealistic, but I still wish I could be like that soooo bad.

    OBJECTION!
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
I knew it was unrealistic from the start but I still wanted to be a courtroom lawyer (Prosecutor, Public Defender, Private Defense Attorney), like most people who initially want to get into law. Then I found out that's a very hit-or-miss job and that even they spend barely any time in the actual courtroom. So, I decided to go for something more practical.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I want to work in the games industry, and am majoring in Computational Media.

And...I suck at programming. It seems a change of plans is in order.

I always wanted to be a writer, ever since I was 6 or so. But I realized that's incredibly unrealistic. I'm still in high school, so I'm trying to plan alternate career paths.

@MadassAlex: There was actually a time, when I was nine or so, when I wanted to be a knight.

    Advertising, as a copywriter.

For whatever it's worth, I can actually come up with ad concepts and copy very quickly.

(Would this actually be that unrealistic?)

  • You can change. You can.

I don't think game designing necessarily entails programming knowledge. Could be wrong, of course. I know shit about the industry. Bugger Pykrete about it.

As for me, I'm either going for director or film critic. Prolly both, if I can pull it off.

    In Colombia

Where the rate of production of non-independent film is practically 4 per year

and where independent film gets so little support it's not even funny

    yeah...

    Move to America?
  • You can change. You can.
That's the plan, yes. Still, making it as an immigrant doesn't seem exactly, is it?

You never know. Sides, I kinda would feel bad about leaving Colombia and not even try to improve things here when it comes to the industry.

There have been many famous people who are immigrants from another country.

Also, in the event that you did make it big, you could always go back and make a difference then.
  • You can change. You can.
    Yeah, I meant "easy"

eh, I dunno. It's just that leaving everything you love for a pipedream is not exactly something you can do lightly.
  • No rainbow star
I want to eventually end up being the creator of a renowned game
  • I'm the one working on the novel.

    ;_;

Well, my major requires a lot of programming, so completing it is looking pretty unlikely from here.

For me, this has gone on since about five years of age running until, well, now. xD

I'mma go ahead and blame it on a somewhat English upbringing.
  • Of course, all citizens of the UK or the British Commonwealth (including Aussies) can aspire to be a knight - it's just all you get is to call yourself "Sir", wear a fancy badge on occasion and meet The Queen (Gawd bless 'er). No armour and swords these days.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Ah, but a knight ought to have a sword! In fact, Terry Pratchett said as much.

And then made a sword out of meteoric iron.
