Lack of Motivation

Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
It sucks.  :l

Every couple of days, I'll start thinking about how I wish I knew how to play guitar.

Then, I will go dig out my acoustic guitar and song book.

I will sit there and try to play chords for roughly five minutes.

I will then inevitably say "meh, I'll do it later" stand up, and forget about it for a while.

Then the cycle repeats.

I'm like this with everything that doesn't have a deadline.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
    Start with melodies.

Chords suck until later; they're just the context for melodies, and only become interesting once you learn how they inform one-another. Once you've connected to the core element of music - that being the melody - you can go back and look at why those melodies work with their given chord progressions.

Anyone with time and commitment can learn to play things by rote, but I'd much rather listen to the guy with less chops and more understanding.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
My roommate last year practiced while watching TV. It seemed to be working okay-ish.
