I'm kind of getting tired of petty kids on the internet dissing bands that are actually really important to the growth of Metal as a genre because they're not dark enough or don't feature gravelly vocals or have a sense of self-awareness to it.

    ^^I think it's mostly American metal fandoms. Most metal fandoms in other countries seem pretty chill, though that may have something to do with them being less counter-culture there.

    . . . Actually, now that I've given it more thought, I don't think the problems with the collective metal fandom are endemic to any specific country/countries.

    It might be a case of familiarity breeding contempt, but man the metal fandom here is really screwed up. The people who think you should only listen to metal and nothing else (and only 'true' metal) and the people who get on about 'the metal religion'. It's like the stuff Manowar sings about except taking 100% seriously.... actually, there's some overlap with the nuttier TTGL fans there.

    Much like TTGL a lot of metal has some great, empowering aspects to it, but people just take it at face value and interpret into 'RARH IMMA PUNCH BEARS!'
