Libertarian Socialism
the notion seems contradictory. The way I've seen it described looks more like Communism then Socialism. But then why not just use Communism?

Not all "libertarian socialism" is "communism", I suppose.
Under (traditional) communism the state would not tolerate the existance of an anti - communist party operating openly.
Not all noncommunist socialist governments would actually try to eliminate parties which oppose the political nature of the state, just render them ineffective.
