I feel compelled to defend groups that probably don't deserve to be defended

Fan Dumb, dead white male literature, American society, you name it. Honestly, I think a lot of the folks that call these sorts of people out tend to be even bigger or more ignorant pricks than the people they target.

Comments

  • People who complain at length about various FanDumbs, at least, could probably find something better to do with their time or simply stop caring that somebody they don't like likes what they like.
  • Funny how often it happens, isn't it?
  • I defended Lucky Star fans once.

    never again
  • Ahem, what's wrong with dead white male literature? Or rather, why dead non-white/female literature would be more worthy of being defended? It's not like skin colour or gender defines literary merit
  • ^^ Basically these people's argument is that those books aren't in circulation because they're good literature, but rather because the academic institution is biased towards white people and Western civilization. In short, all white people are racist.

    "all white people are racist."

    I hope that's a joke...
  • ^ It's more a strawman, I think.
  • Wealthy people can afford to spend their day sitting on their asses and thinking about shit, and white males have historically controlled a disproportionate amount of wealth.
  • a little muffled
Eh, I'm the same way. In general, whenever there's an argument that I don't have a strong opinion on, I always feel like playing Devil's Advocate and picking whichever side is the underdog.
  • Well, do you feel this when you think the attack is inaccurate?

Because I do that and I don't think what the target is should work as an excuse to be wrong on the internet.
