Cue-bey
Fucking why? All this does is make it annoying to navigate older information, such as videos in a playlist on youtube/answers on formspring. What is the benefit of this as opposed to multiple pages? Which asshole's idea was this?

My guess is it's a cheap-ass attempt at saving bandwidth. As long as "most" people are going to find what they're looking for in the first group, why load it all every time?

What really pisses me off is that this tends to be used in place of proper pagination. (See: Tumblr)

But see, it doesn't even save bandwidth.  It actually uses more bandwidth than actual pagination, since it means to get to, say, the fifth page, I have to load five pages worth of content instead of just one or two.
  • Right. It saves bandwidth compared to loading it all at once, but regular pagination kicks its ass.
  • Not to mention it's less stupid.
  • I have seen some pretty terrible implementations of pagination though.

But even at its worst, it's infinitely better than this "load more" thing.

    The mobile site does this.

It's the biggest reason I hate it.
  • One of the stupider implementations of pagination I've seen lately is the avatar galleries on TVTropes.

It's supposed to save bandwidth, but...there's only "previous" and "next" buttons--no way to jump to a specific page. So if you want to see someone's newest avatars, you have to load every page anyway.

(When this was pointed out, Eddie's only answer was "edit the URL to get to the last page")

Yeah, that's... pretty bad, though at least you can edit the URL.  Still, a website shouldn't require you to manually change the URL to navigate it...

Also bad is this (possibly NSFW, not really sure since I haven't looked at every single page of things...).  While it does let you go more than one page at a time, and does have the option to skip to the last page, there's no option to jump to any arbitrary page, and also there's no editing the URL to go to specific pages.  In fact, if you refresh the site, you'll immediately go back to the first page.

You know what the absolute worst is, though?

When you click a link and instead of going to that link, it loads the mobile homepage of the website, with no way at all to acess the link.
