Considering evolution probably wasn't a concept anyone had back then, it'd be pretty difficult for a writer to address it.

Dunno what Tnophelia meant, but it's true that some people believe the bible's mythology is true and disbelieve proof that refutes it.

It's a straw argument made by most christians I know. Evolution wasn't mentioned in the bible, therefore it doesn't exist. We didn't evolve from monkey, we were created as humans and started with adam and eve etc.

Yes, I guess that brings into question how meaningful the definition of a strawman is.

I guess it only comes into play when you argue against a position and supply arguments to refute that are too simple for their refutation to be meaningful.

Well, a strawman argument kind of requires that you be trying to argue against a specific position in the first place, no? If you're misrepresenting your opponent's position and arguing against that instead of their actual position, that's a strawman argument, regardless of whether or not the position you're arguing against is held by someone or not.
