Anime's tendency to portray Americans as Aryans.

What is it with anime portraying all Americans as blond-haired and blue-eyed? I mean, I think blond chicks are hot but holy christ it's ridiculous.

It makes them look really non-Japanese.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
The same with Western works portraying all asian as short, slain eyed and with short black hair

^ But then they make them part-Japanese anyway, so we have no idea what they want.

To date, I have seen maybe one well-drawn black character in anime outside of Samurai Champloo.

    ^^^^ Pretty much that.

Actually, it's not so much Americans getting portrayed that way, as it is pretty much all non-Asians.  Since blond hair and blue eyes are, well, very not Japanese.

^^^Most people in Japan have only seen black people in American movies.

You'd think they could use a reference or something, though...

Naruto is pretty good with black people.

    Um...artistically...speaking.
  • Black Lagoon.

    Again.

There are three major characters in Eureka Seven who are black.  They're drawn pretty well.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
Care to explain,Chagen, for people who haven't seen Black Lagoon?

Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
    Americans? Try westerners in general.

*Recalls Darker than Black's three British characters being two Aryans and a black woman.*

Yes, I just watched the first three episodes of Durarara!! why do you ask?

    a little muffled
Claudia from Macross is a pretty good example of a realistically-drawn (or no less so than anyone else) black character in anime. Also the show she's from is almost thirty years old; I don't really get how other shows are still having such a problem with this...

@Neo_Crimson: August from the second season isn't Aryan-looking, but you forget Decade, who is.
  • Japan East Asia in general is one of the most horribly racist places on Earth.
  • Woki mit deim Popo.
I recall that nationality is the same thing as race to the Japanese POV.  Something like an Indian born and raised in the UK can call him/herself as British will be a mind fuck to a Japanese person that never considered the term "British" more general than a national stereotype.

Funny you say that, I get that impression from foreigners everywhere (those on the internet, anyway).
