FF4 DS's Red Wings theme (a.k.a. Cecil's theme) has the wrong harmonies

First, during the da-da-da da-da-da da-da-da daaaa bits (such as 0:06 in the SNES video and 0:08 in the DS video), those used to be major thirds. The top notes of those trumpet intervals is still the same, but the bottom note is not. The new version has less flavor, as well as not-as-good voice-leading.
However, the big offender is the section that starts at a bit past 0:49 in the SNES video and a bit past 0:51 in the DS video.
Those chords used to be half-diminished chords. Which made them all different harmonies, since half-diminished chords don't stack congruently. The new version turned them all into (full) diminished chords, which DO stack...and since they stack at minor-third intervals, and the melody jumps by minor-third intervals, it's all the same chord now. This...is boring.
