Overanalysis of Death Note
Most notably the last 3 episodes leading up to Light Yagami's defeat and death.
I keep playing all sorts of different variables and situations in my head that would come down to why things happened, what the characters were thinking and who needed to die/survive for said situation to come out, and the consequences to follow.
I keep doing this everytime I think about Death Note, thinking "If Light was aware that Matsuda had a gun he probably would have tried to kill Matsuda first, rather than Near, even though Near had the death note. It was evident that Near did not have a pen or writing utensil at the time. Also, if he happened to avoid pissing off Matsuda and try to appeal to him via his father, then maybe Matsuda wouldn't have shot him."

I don't remember a Dark Yagami or a Ed from Death Note. Is this from the manga?
^It's a reference to a troll fic.
"He kept the blood bananas in a special case because other people might eat them thinking they were not blood bananas and get a mouth full of blood banana and blood."
I think Light should have just used the Royal Death Note at the end there, but I am not exactly an expert on its rules so I could be wrong.
In all seriousness, I can understand why you meant think that, going through all of those different scenarios.
Even after telling them he was Kira? Or is it because they were more willing to believe him once the "voice of reason against Kira" was dead? I could see how they could vaguely try to have sympathy towards him but that also leaves Near's team mates as well. I couldn't see a way that he could talk his way out of anything as long as they were there, and generally were not as close to Light as the task force was.
-wants to contribute more, but somehow forgot everything about Death Note even though he only read it less than a year ago-
In the anime, though, He acts overly dramatically for the entire series, and then at the point where he actually needs to act that way to drive the point home, he stops, exits the building, walks to some deserted stairwell (despite having had only 40 seconds to live for more than a minute) and gets a peaceful, dignified death there.
