People blaming the entirity of America for a few of our nation's idiots

It gets really hard not to hate Europeans as a whole when this happens.

  • "Entirety"

    Goddamn Americans.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
    >XXI Century
    >Still not using metric system

And you still wonder why everyone makes fun of you guys?
  • I'm tempted to post the "unabridged" version of my opening post, even though I'll probably regret it.

  • ^^ You know what's worse? The U.S. customary measurements are legally defined in terms of their metric equivalents.
  • ^That's it.

    This am too fucking stupid.
  • Why shouldn't they be defined in terms of the metric system? I think that makes sense.
  • Why not just use the metric system, then?
  • Because of pure inertia at this point.
  • It's pretty simple, really. At this point, Americans have a much better grasp on U.S. customary units, so if we were to suddenly make metric the standard, a lot of people- myself included- would have trouble making estimations and conversions with any efficiency. In some cases this would last for at least a generation. In the short term, this is really not worth it. In the long term it might worthwhile, but since we can get along fine without the change, I don't see it changing for quite a while.
  • It's like the British and decimalized currency.
  • My parents never caught onto metric, but everyone at my age knows it, so its probably doable...
  • To be honest, I'm shitty with estimating measurements of any kind. I guess a sudden shift wouldn't change much for me.
  • Same here.

But it's mostly because "We are American, not British, we will use our own standard for measurement" way in the beginnings.
  • That's why they chose to use English units.

Anyhow, these units are a disease that need to be exterminated. I failed an exam because of these :<
