Final Boss

A final boss can make or break the ending to a game. Since we were talking about Dreamcast earlier, Sonic Adventure had a good final boss. Too easy, but the build up, final form, music, and the inferred holocaust were awesome!

Jak 3's final boss though... The build up and the chase in the Wasteland were great, but then you come to the final boss and it's just like... "Seriously?! A guy in a cockpit while you have Dark and Light Eco geysers?"

Metal Gear Solid series final bosses are usually some kind of melee fight which pretty terrible. MGS3's final Boss was really fun but easy.

The final boss of No More Heroes 2 was...well,let's just say that if they showed a picture of Suda51 flipping us off for 20 minutes it would have been less insulting.

Though I guess that was kinda the point

The last boss in the PS2 game Extermination is a loli. and you have to kill her by blowing her up with a missile launching assault rifle while riding on a boat trying to get away from her virus.

Wasn't really expecting the final boss, no foreshadowing for the fight either.

Dude...Liquid vs Snake is probably the best fight from MGS 4. It's probably the only good thing from act 5, even. Exempting the microwave corridor.

^I haven't seen that movie yet, but I really want to!

One foot in front of the other, every day.
    Heheh, I smiled at that.

Liquid vs. Snake was an awesome boss fight indeed. Despite the game's flaws, I felt entirely in the moment and desperate to win that fight in a way generally only rivaled by Zelda games.

Another favourite was the mecha fight, even if it was too easy.

Actually, that game had good boss fights all around.
  • Final boss from Twilight Princess and Spirit Tracks were the best. The Shadow Links from GBA LttP were the best sword-to-sword one in my opinion. The Nightmares from Link's Awakening suffered from a inspirationless designs and repetitive forms.

  • But you never had any to begin with.
The Nightmare suffered more from being able to be killed in one hit.
  • First phase: A simple blob.

    Second phase: Agahmin clone.

Third phase: Retread of the first boss.

    Fourth phase: Ganon clone.

Fifth phase: Another blob, 1 shottable with a bomb.

Sixth phase: Actually decent if you didn't know the Boomerang trick.

  • More like a cutscene in gameplay form than a final boss, but Yu Jevon is long and annoying, and easy for all the wrong reasons.

Illusion of Gaia's Final Boss was pretty cool and that theme was so badass!
  • But you never had any to begin with.
Of course, Yu Yevon was preceded by one of the harder final bosses in the series.

Kingdom Hearts final bosses was just boring as hell. Kingdom Hearts II was a vast improvement in that regard I thought, except when it suddenly become a shooter... I think they probably should have made that a Gummi Ship boss battle.
  • You can change. You can.
Meh, the only salvageable thing from the Xemnas fight, imo was the last fight.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
Terranigma's final boss is a nightmare. My brain can't comprehend how someone has been able to beat it without savestates

To be fair, every boss in Kingdom Hearts became pretty boring once you have that ability that makes you unable to die if your HP is above 1 and various other abilities such that every time you get hit, you end up with at least enough MP to use Cure.  Because then it's more or less impossible to die as long as you're actually putting some effort into the fight.

Zebra Xemnas, huh? Well, I liked a lot of the final battles at least.
  • You can change. You can.
I always thought that KH II should have either cut down the Bonus Level ups or make them the only level up system. Levelling up practically twice per fight makes the game ridiculously easy.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Arkham Asylum's final boss nearly ruined the latter part of the game for me.
  • You can change. You can.
The latter part of the game? Is there anything post-Hulk!Joker?

    post-Hulk!Joker?

    Weirdest grammar implications ever. x_X

God Hand. If you didn't use many continues before, you will now. Despite the difficulty, it was a fun set of battles. Then again, I suck at videogames. But I did beat God Hand on normal, so do I suck at videogames?
  • Definitely not gay.

Have any of you heard of this thing I call the Time Eater?

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

    Kingdom Hearts

Kingdom Hearts final bosses have the pleasure of being both irritatingly long (Why don't they just let you save between battles if they're going to have sixteen different final bosses per ending anyways) and practically needing you to use Second Chance/Once More ever since 358/2 Days. Speaking of which:

every boss in Kingdom Hearts became pretty boring once you have that ability that makes you unable to die if your HP is above 1

That only works if the boss is comboing you and has been exploited in every game past II, which makes any boss fights outside of the main story (and any important story based ones in BBS) even more repetitive. Basically Dodge Roll Forever>Three Second Opening to do little damage>Are you hit? No? Back to step one. Yes? Heal, then repeat step one.

  • But you never had any to begin with.

It's not even past II. If you don't have Second Chance on during the Sephiroth fights, Heartless Angel will oneshot you.

  • You can change. You can.

Kingdom Hearts final bosses have the pleasure of being both irritatingly long (Why don't they just let you save between battles if they're going to have sixteen different final bosses per ending anyways)

As I recall, I and II did let you do that except for the last bosses which had different phases by the shit-ton. But that's Square for ya.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

    >If you didn't use many continues before, you will now.

Really? I found it among the easiest boss fights.
