I remember she creeped me out as a kid. At the time, I didn't understand that she was an alcoholic, just that she was really screwed up. It's frightening to imagine yourself in Helga's position, and yet I appreciate her character for bringing up issues that children's television, and society for that matter tends to overlook, instead projecting the false image of the ideal happy nuclear family.
