Hmmm...that's not something anyone would do at random. I wonder what sort of system's in place in one region but not the other that made it impossible to do the more advanced version in both places?
  • Maybe it's similar to how Microsoft doesn't like to allow detailed level editors in games, because it allegedly harms DLC sales or something?  I know the PS3 has Little Big Planet, but presumably that gets a pass due to being published by Sony.

Were that the case, why would they have been able to release it that way in Japan?
  • Well I mean it might be specifically that Sony of America has a restriction like that.  Or something.

“Regarding Disgaea 4′s map edit system, regulation differences between regions made it very difficult to keep in," said Jack Niida, NIS America
producer. "However, thanks to all the help from our development team
and SCEA, we were able to keep the system by making just some minor
design adjustments. Players won’t be able to create a completely
detailed map, but this new system is still a great way to expand the
Disgaea universe and share your own creations with players around the
nation.” says NIS America producer Jack Niida.

So it actually was just a stupid rule. So much for never assuming malice when incompetence would explain it.

It can't be piracy, since the newest PS3 games can't even run on cracked PS3s.

Did the previous game have DLC?
  • Yes it did apparently.
  • Yes.

New characters, a new mode, and a whole new storyline with other new stuff.
