"Traps"

edited 2011-02-16 18:27:24 in General
I'm not trying to sound judgmental here, but how exactly did girlish-looking-boys become so popular with us?

Comments

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    I'm not especially a fan.
  • I think bishies are pretty cool, if only because I aspire to be one.  I'm getting closer every day!
  • Because they look like girls and have penises.

And most tropers are traps (allegedly).

"Because they look like girls and have penises."

    Yay?

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I'm pretty sure I'm not a trap. What with the beard and everything.
  • Well, although I doubt most of the traps on TV Tropes can trick me (because they are probably gonky mother fuckers with no voice training) the one trap that gets me every fucking time is Mirror Force.
  • ^ I can take voice training to make my voice more feminine?
  • Yes, you practice talking in a new voice, just like a voice actor does. Eventually your vocal chords do magical things and enable you to use that voice whenever.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
My voice is low enough that I can't sing the entire range of bass notes. Good thing I don't want to sound feminine.
  • Meh, I don't get the point of fitting into gender/sexual stereotypes. Why not just crossdress during sex?
  • ^^^ I see.  Thanks, I'm going to start singing along with Spice Girls videos straight away!

^^ My voice is more monotone than deep.  People often comment on how I sound bored or frustrated.
  • I thought this thread was going to be about the term "trap" and the implication that a biologically male person presenting/expressing himself as a woman is inherently "deceptive".

Personally, I've dismissed it as a silly slang term, but apparently some find it offensive.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
My dad, a lawyer, has represented at least one person who was actually "trapped," but I agree that the term could be seen as offensive for general use.
  • Funny; I wasn't going to initially use "trap", I was going to use "Crossdressing boys", but didn't, for some reason.

I can see the appeal of them, I just wonder why they're so popular.

    000
We had a few tropers who wouldn't stop talking about them, and it caught on with the rest of us like a virus.

There's also the whole  "nobody on the forum is straight, even the ones who think they are" thing.

    ^ Edmania's inside your head.
  • Edmania isn't a trap or bishonen. I saw his Facebook.
  • I always knew that whole "OMG why must I be so beautiful and feminine" thing with him was bullshit.
  • ^^ So what does he look like?
  • Traps more or less disgust me. Not in a judgmental way, it's just sort of an instinct or something.

I think the interest in boys who look like girls stems in large part from the fact that it's effectively trolling people.
  • I've certainly seen images of traps used for trolling.
  • He looks like this.

Holy shit, that's a pretty girl, in that black dress, with that flowing brown hair.  Too bad I can't see what she's leaning up against.

Seriouspost: If I ever get ANY notice about the above post, I am so thumping it.

^^ I had no idea his hair was so shiny. And blond.
  • edited 2011-02-16 23:58:04
^^ Another person, it looks like.  Though I can't tell anything about what they look like of course, other than that they're taller than the girl.
