The internet made me watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

I'm not a bit embarrassed to tell you guys about it, so joking aside I think you ought to be able to trust me when I say it wasn't entirely comfortable for me to watch, and to be honest it's mostly just kind of average. I don't mean like, C average, I mean like a B. There are some good parts, but I think the plots tend towards cliche, and sometimes the sweetness level goes past my taste.

But hey, I heard it was good and the fuss over it amused me, so I thought I'd try to be mature and give it a shot. I thought the first four were okay, but I didn't see what caused the hype. I was assured that the ninth one was the best, and I made it that far and saw that it got better, but it still didn't really live up to the hype.

I might watch the others, but if I do it'd mainly be so I can keep up with the /co/ threads. Some of the reaction images I've seen were literally laugh-out-loud funny.

So, I find out they have My Little Pony Happy Meal toys now. So now my fondness for ironic kitsch and memetics are at odds with my urge to not look like a total fag.

What do, IJBM?

  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
    Watch the Fire Emblem OVA.
  • Who cares about not looking like a total fag, just watch it!

(I probably should, too. I miss watching children's cartoons)

    This.

(I probably should, too. I miss watching children's cartoons)

This too. (Though really I'm still a child.)
  • I should have said "current children's cartoons". Last one I remember trying to get into is Adventure Time, which wasn't doing it for me. Neither did Flapjack; if I wanted a "creepy" kids' show then I'd go to Courage or Billy and Mandy.
  • Adventure Time isn't that creepy.

I love it because it's funny as shit and every episode is like an exaggerated adventure genre story.
  • Play Robot Unicorn Attack as well while you are at it.

Don't get why you are freaking about watching a cute little anime, Gelzo. It's fun!
  • I was referring to Flapjack. It, AT and Chowder (which I liked at least the earliest episodes of) all seem to come from a line of shows with the same sort of wackiness/energy in them, though.
  • >anime

    What?
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^Well, the word is Japanese for anything animated...
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
You mean it's American for anything Japanese-animated and described using a term they stole from the French?

Yes. But in Japanese (and French, I suppose), it means anything animated, so it's technically not completely invalid to call it anime.

    Technically.
  • Except we aren't speaking French or Japanese here.
  • Likes cheesecake unironically.
MLP may not be Japanese, but it's so sickeningly cute that it just as well may be.

Although it's not actually my kind of sickeningly cute.
  • It's sickeningly kawaii, god damn it desu ka.

    Also...

    Cuteness is uniquely Japanese, now?
  • Likes cheesecake unironically.
I knew that I was Japanese when I was a kid...
  • -huggles Nyarly-

    Luka is the best touhou
  • B-b-but...

    Luka...

    VOCA...

    ...

    nevermind.

    Shut up Dyre Dyre Docks.

Luka is THE_BEST touhou ever. Because she fires music out of her headphones.

    AND HER MOUF
  • So I watched an episode on the Hub's site. All I can really say is I like the art style, because of the way it manages to minimalize the "saccharine" traits without beating you over the head with them.
  • Oh, this thread again.

The show has really grown on me. I've seen all the episodes now.

    ~♥YES♥~! I *AM* a ~♥cupcake♥~! ^_^
    I really this show.

Laugh, and I will not despise you. No, I'll mourn your ignorance instead.

However, it is also worth noting that Dan Vs. is ten-thousand times better than practically every western animation ever.

  • I watched the first episode (because I can't not watch these things in order). I like the 2000's-ish art style, for a lot of the same reasons AU mentioned. As for the story--well, I've only seen the first episode, so I can't judge that yet.
  • The first two are meh. I think episode 4 is where it gets good.

I'll keep that in mind. But I can't skip episodes, even with a show made for 6-year-old girls, because I'm obsessive that way.

Also, [I already started taking screencaps to use as future avatars, because I feel they're sufficiently "girly" for me.]
  • I did that too.
  • Presumably without the "girly" aspect, though, right?
  • Yes. Just the "cute" aspect.

This is awesome. Friendship everywhere in this bitch.

Next order of business. Is Winter Wrap-Up the most goddamn catchy song or is it not?
